BENEFITS OF SPEECH CLASS

Meet Your Therapist:
Rubina Haroutonian

Rubina Haroutonian, M.A., LMFT, RPT Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Registered Play Therapist

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist. I have a private practice at Sync Counseling Center in Sierra Madre. I received my Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology, Marriage Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. My specialty is to work with families that have a loved one(s) with Autism or special needs and be a support to siblings. Furthermore, I work with children that have behavioral issues, premarital couples, individuals, couples, expecting couples, families, as well as women struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety and parenting. I have a specialized play therapy room dedicated to my work with children.  In addition to my private practice, I am a speaker. I present on various topics regarding mental health.

Since public speaking is so important and a part of my work, I began a speech class in the Fall of 2022. The purpose of this class is to help increase children’s self-esteem and self-confidence through public speaking. Throughout the course, the children learn how to use different tones, pitches and gestures. They learn the importance of maintaining eye contact with the audience, while reciting their speeches.

This class was created from my personal experiences as a child, partaking in speech classes.  These speech classes helped form my courage and take away my fear of public speaking.  As a student in high school, college and grad school, I was able to stand before my peers and give a class presentation.  As I advanced in my career, I have provided several presentations to parents, students, teachers, and professionals.  Having the confidence to speak to a crowd, gives people opportunities in life, instead of closed doors or missed opportunities.
